The Congress Heights Review

The Congress Heights Review (a project of the Parklands-Turner Public Library) is a themed audio literary magazine currently accepting submissions of fiction and creative nonfiction stories, skits, mini-audio plays, monologues, news stories, poems, songs, and memoirs under 1500 words or 10 minutes audio/video.

The theme for the first issue is folklore. The months of October, November, December are often the only times when it’s socially acceptable to be superstitious and believe in magic, so we’re going to celebrate folklore in all its beauty. Write a Thanksgiving story that's happy, or maybe that’s not happy at all. Or choose a holiday! There’re at least 3 dozen holidays during the months of October, November, and December. Choose one and write a story or poem about it.

Interested in local folklore? I’d love a story about Bunny Man or another local cryptid. Perhaps a story about whispers in abandoned metro tunnels? What folklore do you have to share?

Submissions will open to writers in the DC Public Library Service area on July 1st and close July 31.

As a library program, we do not exchange cash. This is to purely showcase community talent.
